MY PROFILE

Cristina was born and raised in the Texas Hill Country. For as long as she can remember she’s always felt that need to create, and was lucky enough to have amazing parents that supported that need. At 11 years old, she fell and broke her hip, but because of multiple complications has had have numerous surgeries since then. In 2003 Cristina graduated from Texas State University with a BFA in painting. In the past there has been time spent away from her work as she received and healed from surgeries, but she held on to her goals and never gave up, and has since become an award winning artist. Growing up on a ranch near Austin, she was surrounded by both nature and the experiences of the city. So colors and textures were always around her, and it was hard not to be inspired; whether it was painting a landscape or later on being pushed towards abstracts. The pain Cristina has lived with, since the age of 11, is what really tells her story. She feels the texture in her work represents the bumps and the bruises along the way, and everything that she’s had to overcome to get to where she is today. She often uses what most would consider ”trash” and then repurposes it into something both beautiful and interesting. Her current body of work explores all of the emotions experienced on a daily basis. Combined with the organic elements of nature, color, and texture inherent to her earlier pieces, because of this her work has achieved an elevated dimension with these many influences.
